Seattle Nice: What Can We Learn from a Chamber of Commerce Poll?
We also talk about the transportation levy, which happens to poll quite well with voters.
News flash: Voters want the city to get “back to basics.” They’re dissatisfied with how the city is going and are “seriously considering” a move somewhere else. They think the city needs way more cops, and they’re concerned about seeing homelessness and drug use on the streets. They think downtown Seattle is dangerous. They’re starting to wonder whether Seattle is so affordable after all. Potholes and street paving: Very important. Traffic calming and bike lanes: No thanks, we’re good. In lieu of new taxes, they want a city budget with no hard choices, where cutting back on “non-critical services” can easily mend a $240 million budget hole.
In conclusion, things are on the wrong track, big time. It’s probably the city council’s fault.
Sandeep, David and I talk about a recent Seattle Chamber poll on this week’s episode of Seattle Nice. And yes, I do complain at length about the cynicism of polls.
