Discussing Seattle's Newest Council Member on KUOW's Seattle Now
On KUOW’s “Seattle Now” show last week, host Patricia Murphy and I discussed the recent appointment of the city’s newest council member, Tanya Woo. Woo, who lost to District 2 incumbent Tammy Morales in November, will have to begin running almost immediately to hold the citywide council seat, which will be back on the ballot in November 2024—and then again in 2025. At the same time, she and the rest of the council will have to take on the police union contract, address a budget shortfall of up to $250 million, and try to make good on their campaign promises, which included an “audit” of overall city spending and reversing years of decline in Seattle Police Department recruitment.
