As PubliCola readers have no doubt noticed, I’ve started a Substack—basically, an email newsletter version of the website (still at publicola.com) that will include some extras from time to time, such as shorter pieces that make more sense as an email than a full post.
Long-time, first time. Happy to hear that you're pleased with the Substack platform as you look to make a home here as a writer.
FWIW, I invested a very modest amount of money in Substack as part of their WeFunder/crowdsource campaign earlier in the year for this very reason. As you say, the writing is on the wall for Twitter/X. And as sad as it will make me when it shutters (not sarcasm), I see loads of potential for Substack to pick up "the slack" (yet another platform) so to speak.
Best wishes for a long and distinguished career here, there and everywhere...
I'm so happy you made this change! I quit twitter after muskrat laid off all of my friends and never looked back, but it did also make me forget to check publicola for the news. I'm finally getting to catch up because of the email subscription!
Erica- I super appreciate this explanation of the additional emails we have been receiving, and the enlightening back story. Always enjoy your depth of reporting and editorials, you help me to understand many of the complicated issues that surrounds us. Thank you!
